The Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association

The Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association (ADBA) has been established to represent all businesses involved in this sector, to help remove the barriers to growth currently faced by the industry and to support its members to grow their businesses to make sure this potential is achieved. ADBA is working hard on behalf of its members to:

Policy: ensure local, regional and national policies operate in favour of the industry, in particular through the introduction of binding biogas production targets in the upcoming Energy Bill, and the setting of renewable heat incentives and feed-in tariffs at the right level to attract investment

Education and Information: act as a resource centre for all information relevant to the industry, ensure Government, MPs, local authorities, key stakeholders and the general population understand the benefits of the industry, provide advice on the key issues for those considering building an AD plant, and share best practice and knowledge amongst its members

Regulation, training and standards: ensure an appropriate level of regulation, standards and training is in place to give confidence to consumers, ensure a safe working environment for the industry and its employees, and act as the industry regulator

Finance: facilitate the provision of finance to support the growth of the industry and introduce members looking to raise funds to financiers wanting to invest in this sector

Member Services: provide additional services to members to help them develop their businesses, in particular providing guidance on planning, technical, legal and commercial issues specific to the industry, organise networking events including seminars and conferences, make available advertising opportunities, introductions to funders, Invitation to Tender listings and an online marketplace to enable members quickly and easily to offer their services to other members

Aims of ADBA

The development of AD is fundamental to the UK achieving both its renewable energy targets and a carbon free future. At a cost of just £5 billion and with the potential to produce £1.7 billion worth of gas at today's prices developing AD would be a valuable investment. However currently there are a number of barriers to the industry's growth. The value of AD is not properly or widely understood, there is an absence of training and regulation standards, industry data is underdeveloped and it is difficult to secure finance. ADBA has been created to remove these barriers and facilitate the industry's growth with the aim of building 1000 plants by 2020.
